The design of the Volksplane VP-1 (also known as the Evans VP-1) can be traced back to the initiative of the Californian William Evans in the late 1960's. His intention was to produce an aircraft which anyone could build using simple means allowing ordinary people to indulge in sports aviation. Evans continues to sell the construction plans for his design to this day and it is estimated that several tens of thousands of Volksplanes have been built all over the world. A two-seat VP-2 was developed, but never progressed beyond the prototype stage.
Our model was designed by Philipp Gardemin to a scale of 1:2,5, working from original drawings. All dimensions were accurately reduced to the correct scale, and the design and construction details of the full-size were adopted almost without exception, as were the materials and component sizes. The result is an impressive and robust large-scale model of all-wood construction. Its flying characteristics are straightforward, and the model represents an ideal first step in the world of large-scale power models. The aeroplane can be powered by any petrol engine of about 33 ccm or larger, or a powerful electric motor of 8S LiPo or Li-Ion flight battery. For maximum scale fidelity the obvious choice is the Saito FG57TS (item no. 7100/75) opposed twin petrol engine. The model is an ideal candidate for additional scale detail, and there are no limits to the ambitious builder of the kit in this regard. Dozens of full-size machines in a wide variety of color schemes can be found very easily with a little research on the internet.
